We all have stress in our lives and could use any stress reducers available, thank God for pole dancing! Pole dancing alone in my house, to my favorite music – is my favorite stress reducer. But just to back up a bit, it’s not just general everyday stress I am talking about reducing; it’s the critical kind… That can make you fat!
Chronic stress or unusually high stress in your life can cause your cortisol levels to be high. Mine are, according to my doctor. I went to the doctor to find out why I was having unusually low energy and mood swings, particularly PMS mood swings. It wasn’t normal for me and it was getting so bad that I needed some real answers.
You see, I eat most if not all organic, I eat clean proteins, get my veggies and superfoods down, and am a health nut…. Yet my energy levels were still failing.
Turns out that unusually high-stress levels in my life have contributed to stripping my adrenals and elevating my cortisol levels. High Levels of cortisol is destructive for a woman’s body in that it destroys healthy muscles and bone, weakens the immune system, slows the metabolism and digestion, and makes your hormones wonky (hence creating those mood swings, especially prior to menstruation).
We have all heard how cortisol can also make you fat by encouraging fat storage, especially in the mid-section; however, getting those cortisol levels to drop so the weight loss will happen can be a real challenge, especially if you are like me with a VERY busy life.
Pole dancing for myself and my well-being has been a life saver – a real game changer. As a teacher, I spend a lot of time helping others enjoy dancing as a form of exercise and weight loss, however, this time I want to stress the “stress reducing” benefits of pole dancing as well.
Don’t make the same mistake I did and think that stress will just “go away on its own” when life changes for the better in the future. Don’t think that stress won’t catch up with you and destroy your health… it can and will if you don’t take action to stop it!
Pole dancing can actually cause stress if you do it an environment that isn’t comfortable FOR YOU.
Many women don’t want to learn to pole dance in front of other people. In fact, many won’t even pole dance for their husbands …. .usually because we as woman have a hard time feeling sexy and “good enough” on the inside. This low self-esteem isn’t for full figured girls only either! In my experience, very beautiful and skinny girls have just as many (if not more) insecurities about dancing on a pole and looking good when they do it.
The very best way to ENJOY pole dancing just for the relaxing and “joy-inducing” benefits is to do it alone when nobody is around. Put on your favorite music, get hot and sweaty and enjoy. Hell, do it nude if you want! (I do in secret sometimes)
Feel the music from the inside of your heart and allow your body to move sensually in the way that feels right for you.
Many times we think we need to mimic someone else because they look like a better dancer than we do, but it’s an insecurity-trap you don’t need to get stuck in. It’s an insecurity-trap that will STRESS YOU OUT!
Pole dancing for yourself for enjoyment will not only drastically reduce your stress levels but give you a sense of deep emotional pleasure you may have never felt in your body before now…. At least this is what happens to me.
Give it a try tonight. Dim the lights if you need to and don’t think about having the perfect body or doing the move right. Just be safe and ENJOY yourself for once.
Let me know how it goes by commenting below….. 🙂
