Can’t Afford Best Dance Pole Brands (Or don’t know if they are worth the extra money)?
When I first started teaching pole dancing classes, I simply couldn’t afford a good brand name pole. I had to start with something more affordable yet I didn’t want to compromise the health and safety of myself or my students by doing so. So just kept asking myself……
“What’s the difference between all those and the off-brand screw together friction fit dance poles sold on Ebay or Amazon?”
The BEST way to decide which pole dancing pole is best for you and your situation is watch and read a lot of reviews. When I first started shopping, there were no video reviews on the no brand dance poles, just the verbal ones from previous buyers. Those didn’t really didn’t help me because I was using the pole everyday for commercial use while most people were using it once or twice a week for a 20-30 minute pole dance workout at home (or something like that).
So what happened? I bought several different off brand pole dance poles from Ebay and Amazon that looked good, looked identical in the pictures, and appeared trustworthy based on verbal reviews. And I made a TON of costly mistakes.
I did find there is a difference in quality and if you find the right off-brand pole, they can be just as sturdy (or sturdier) than your name brands depending on your needs.
In this pole dance pole review, I will share everything I learnt by purchasing all these different no brand poles that look alike while giving you tips to buy a dance pole that is safe by educating about what to look for in a good quality off brand dance pole that will last for years.

This pole is safe and sturdy enough to be used to learn pole dance fitness in your own home.
Off brand removable or portable dance poles come in both static and spinning form. Static poles remain stationary 100% of the time. Spinning dance poles can be static or spinning. Usually, there are screws at the bottom of the pole that allow you to lock the pole into static mode, or loosen the screws for a spinning mode.
Not all brand name pole are safe or good quality. There are also what I call “party poles” which are good to stand by and dance around but are not meant to hold a lot of weight and therefore are not suitable for exercise purposes or pole tricks like fast pole spins and inverting. Typically, you will find these types of poles in a local adult stores or Spencers.
I bought one once just to try it out and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone for safety reasons. Some come spring loaded and can come loose from the ceiling. Especially if too much tension is put on the pole. They also usually come with plastic parts, and that says it all. I’m not even going to try and spin on a pole with plastic parts. When purchasing an off-brand portable pole, watch for these clues. These clues will help you to avoid a scam and get the best dance pole for your home:
- A Regarding Amazon and Ebay, many of the companies selling dance poles are not dedicated to the quality of dance poles they sell. You can spot them because they will sell other things like camping equipment, outdoor supplies, car parts, etc (lots of other things that have nothing to do with pole dancing at all). Those are the companies that frequently make mistakes in the quality of their dance pole build and those mistakes can have costly consequences. For example, one “Amazon Choice” pole damages your floor and ceiling due to one bolt being misaligned and people often leave good reviews at first because they don’t notice the damage until they take the pole down months or even years later. In addition, these companies are not dedicated to your pole dancing safety and journey, they often don’t last long and when issues arise later on down the road they don’t help you fix it.
- A dance pole should be made of good thick steel, avoid spring-loaded poles and anything with plastic parts
- Smooth high quality bearings if it is a spinning pole (you don’t want it to stop spinning after a few short months)
- Wide base and Dome with White soft, flexible rubber or protective similar performing material sold by a reputable seller. TPE is also a new material great for dance poles installed in apartments or installing on popcorn ceilings.
- Chipping Chrome – this can cut you!
- Good customer service and warranty. No brand or “screw together” type dance poles are never completely flawless. So it’s important to buy from a company that has great customer service and is easy to reach in case you need a new replacement part.

I would recommend the 45mm for your size. Most people do well that size, it’s what I use and I am only 2 more inches taller than you! We are both short! 🙂
Hi I saw you on YouTube. I have been wanting to get back into shape for a while. I was wanting to try something new to get back into shape. I saw pole fitness about two years ago and have always wanted to try it ever since. I’m a beginner and I’m 5’8″. I’m also renting so I need a pole that’s safe and semi permanent. Hi doll! I am glad I have tempted you to try pole 🙂 That’s my goal 🙂 I would highly recommend a portable and removable pole because you are renting. They will easily adjust to new ceiling heights when you move, and they usually don’t damage the ceiling or floor so you can get your deposit back. I have had my Affordable No Brand installed in my apartment when I used to rent and had no problems with my landlord. I would also recommend a 45mm and a chrome finish, that is very standard for beginners who are just looking to enjoy some fun sexy exercise at home. Chrome is the most affordable finish on a pole and easiest to grip for “general use”. I hope you get a pole and come play! It’s so much fun! I know you will love it! Danna
I was just wondering which pole u prefer I have the money to get the x pole but if the no brand is just as good then I don’t want to spend the money on the x pole also I’m a beginner and only want to get one pole
Hi Meghen, it really depends on your situation. Both are very good and safe pole for home use and I use BOTH in my home AND in my studios. There are differences between the two that may help you decide what is best for you. Here are my thoughts:
1) As you may know, I always recommend the X Pole if you can afford it and here is why, if you ever plan to compete or travel, the X Pole has a premium carrying bag that makes it a little easier to transport.
2) If you rent a home and ever plan to change ceiling heights, the X Pole is better because they have so many extension possibilities – it’s harder to get extensions for the Affordable No Brand over 10ft. X pole has a smaller base which is a nice “perk”, it’s less metal on the ground for your feet to dance around, however my affordable no brand base hasn’t bothered me or my students.
3) the X pole installs a bit easier than the Affordable No Brand because you don’t need a ladder and can do everything from the floor.
4) X Pole has spent years adapting their poles for the best features and the highest performance for professionals so it’s a better pole all around for that reason. So if details and premium quality matter to you then go with the X Pole.
If none of the above are a concern or apply to you and you see yourself as an everyday woman who wants to safely enjoy pole dancing for fitness (even inverting and doing all those fancy tricks) at home then the Affordable No Brand is your best bet. I personally prefer the chrome finish on my Affordable no Brand over my X Pole because the X Pole is more slick and harder to grip.

This pole can be taken up and down everyday pretty easily once you get the hang of it. I used to take 7 of them up and down everyday in my pole studio when I was teaching classes with them because I had to make room form my other fitness instructors to teach their classes. It’s much easier if you don’t need to un-screw the individual pole parts. If you can take it down and store it everyday in a spot where are the pieces can stay connected together then that’s best. If you have to unscrew the individual pole pieces to store it everyday, you are going to HATE it and I wouldn’t do it.
If you really need a pole that super easy to take down everyday that breaks down easily into smaller pieces, the Lupit Classic dance pole is by far the easiest to break down and store.

Im not sure what brand of dance pole you have but most of them have extensions you can buy to adapt your pole to most ceiling heights : ) Have you checked yet?
Hi! I’m wondering which extension to get for a no-brand pole for a ceiling height of 10′ .5″ to 10’1″? the 500mm says it adds 1’7″ which would mean it goes to 10’7.8″ will it adjust to a shorter height of 10’1″? Thank you so much for your help!

Yes it will adjust. If you click on the “Height Chart” tab on any of the pole product listing in our shop it will show you exactly what size extension you need for your ceiling height.
For the PFD Chrome Pro Quality pole, the height chart states that you would need to use the 250mm and purchase the additional 500mm extension to reach ceiling heights between 9’10” to 10’2″‘s.

Awesome 🙂 thanks for your response. so just to clarify/ confirm you don’t have to get an extension which, when added to the regular height of the pole equals exactly the ceiling height. You just need to get one that is in the ballpark (at least the height of your ceiling and preferably a bit higher and then you can adjust the pole to be a bit shorter as long as the maximum reach with the extension is higher when you are setting it up?).
